EVENT: When life gives you lemons…

Hey Princess,

“Remember the Lord in everything you do, and he will show you the right way.” – Proverbs 3:6

Whether you make lemonade or squeeze out a smile, the familiar proverbial phrase, “When life gives you lemons…”,  refers to taking the bitterness and sourness we sometimes face and using it for something positive.PicsArt_1408355421482

On Saturday, 16 August 2014, the St Vincent’s Anglican Church Hall in Reiger Park  illuminated with shades of yellow as women (wearing a touch of lemon) came together  to be celebrated, inspired and encouraged, for their Junior Worship’s annual women’s month event.

Themed,  “When life gives you lemons…”,  a golden thread was woven throughout the event, from the sharing of the guest speakers to the décor.

I had to channel my inner Jeannie D, as I was privileged to be the MC for the day, a task I had such fun doing. (Initially nerves surfaced but I remembered ‘We are called to be bold’ – Joshua 1:9; and ‘We have not been given a spirit of fear…’ – 2 Timothy 1:7)

Delivering sincere and heartfelt messages, the guest speakers for the day were Light of the Nations’, Pastor Suzanne Henry and businesswoman, Busi Radebe, who God used to give a powerful word to all the ladies and I believe seeds were planted and all who heard it were blessed.

Pastor Suzanne Henry shared on the lemons she had faced in her life. She also shared things to remember when lemons come our way.

L – God loves me

E -Enter into His presence embrace His promises

M – Make positive confessions (e.g. I am blessed)

O – Only believe ( All things are possible)

N – Never give up

S – Smile

Busi Radebe spoke on the importance of self love. She shared how as women, we carry lemons from our childhood with us into adulthood and this often causes us not to love ourselves. I absolutely loved how she pointed out that “lemons” – along with other ingredients such as; being able to see the hidden treasures, accepting and respecting yourself; believing in yourself and your truth; being your own hero and cheerleader; and taking care of yourself – are necessary to make “lemonade”.

Guests also enjoyed tasty treats and entertainment by Fiona’s School of Dance, Uncle Wayne and his band as well as members of the Junior Worship youth.

Throughout the planning, implementation and evaluation of this event, one thing is evident. God is AMAZING. I cannot begin to express how in awe I am. When I look back to Saturday I just smile and say PRAISE GOD! His blessing, favour and provision were upon the event.

A bitter/sweet situation

We may sometimes receive lemons but we can call upon God and trust Him to turn that bitterness into sweetness. (Romans 8:28). He is always with us and will never leave us nor forsake us.

Always remember that ‘lemons’ are a key ingredient in making ‘lemonade’.

The success of the event relied on the help of many people and a few businesses who generously contributed. Special thanks to: Yoga Studio Namaste, Elite Health Spa, The Little Bookshop in Boksburg, Zoe Christian Bookstore, Sorbet East Rand Mall, Desiree Amigo (for the sponsoring of the décor), Uncle Wayne, Fiona’s School of Dance, Kestell Consulting,  all who assisted with the catering and everyone else who helped in any way. May God richly bless you!
